Algarve Beaches

The Algarve coast line stretches about 100 miles from the westernmost tip to the Spanish border. The western ends juts out into the Atlantic, a rugged, undeveloped area, which has retained its natural charm - traditional arts and crafts, which have all but disappeared from the eastern coast - form part of the way of life here. The western coastline is extremely dramatic, with cliffs of black rock from which fishermen cling precariously hundreds of feet above the sea .Beaches vary from tiny, intimate coves to long lengths of open soft sand, where the Atlantic waves crash and retreat. The entire area is virtually untouched by tourism. The high spot to the western coast is Cape St. Vincent - the most southwesterly point in Europe - Europe's equivalent of Cornwall's Land's End. The Southern coast of the Algarve has arguably some of the best beaches, although somewhat busier in the high season. There are at this time 4 Official Naturist Beaches, but topless bathing appears to be accepted on most beaches.
